Mathematics/numerology and science - astronomy/astrology - was born with the ancients through their discovery of the 4 Great Patterns (day, lunar 'moonth', lunar year and solar year) and the sacred 7 Luminaires aka 7 Classical Planets (Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn). Out of the 7 moving objects in the heavens, 4 can't be easily seen during the day (Venus can be) and 4 don't cast shadows on Earth (Venus can).
The ancients - Sumerians, Egyptians, Hebrews, Greeks, Romans, Indians, Chinese, Druids, Mayans, etc. - tracked the 4 lunar phases of roughly 7 (~7.4) days each. The 12-month lunar year (354 days) + 7 day week + 4 days = solar year.
"As Above, So Below"
The lunar cycle is ~28 days or 28 days of the Moon being lit (minus one night of New Moon). The menstrual cycle is ~28 days. The ancients observed this connection of Nature.
Also observed by the ancients were patterns that fixed stars formed: asterisms. Orion is 7 stars with 4 making up his shoulders and feet (+ Orion's Belt). The Big Dipper and Little Dipper are both 7 stars with 4 in their bowls. The Pleiades/7 Sisters is the 4th most recognizable asterism.
Mars returns to the same point in relationship to the Sun and Earth every 47 years.
So the ancients regarded this pattern of 7 & 4 as being sacred as it was used by the Grand Architect of the Universe (G.A.O.T.U.). Common cubits - the measurement from one's elbow to the tip of their middle finger - were/are 6 palms x 4 fingers = 24 digits (see Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man). The Sumerians, Egyptians and Hebrews thus used the royal cubits of 7 palms x 4 fingers = 28 digits in the construction of all their sacred buildings.

The Sumerians/Babylonians constructed ziggurats for each of their cities. The Ziggurat of Babylon or "Tower of Babel" of Genasis Ch 11 - like all the Sumerian ziggurats - was 7 levels high (6 stories + rooftop observation deck) and 4-sided (+ their base), and was designed by its architect using royal cubits. The first Egyptian step-pyramid - Pharaoh Djoser's at Saqqara - was 7 levels (6 mastabas + rooftop) and 4-sided, and designed by its architect Imhotep using royal cubits.
The ancient Hebrews - unlike their neighbors the Egyptians and Babylonians - worshipped the One GOD and not the heavenly bodies. But their mystics knew of the sacred 7 Luminaires and the light of Venus casting a shadow was considered sacred and was known as the Shekinah. They used the lunar calendar.* The Hebrews were among the (slave?) builders in Egypt and were well aware of the standard measurements of the common cubit, royal cubit, palm, and finger. Moses the Prince of Egypt was very well educated in astronomy/astrology, math/numerology, history, language and religion. He definitely knew of the sacred combination of 7 & 4.
